God’s Word and Life Today

God’s Word and Life Today

It is interesting sometimes how things connect when we don’t even try to make them connect. I was reading in my devotionals this morning and two of them connected on God’s word.

Days of Praise had a theme of how God’s Word is settled forever based on Psalm 119:89 and other verses.

Psalms 119:89 Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.

Men of Integrity all week has had devotions centered around “Let God’s Word Rock Your World”.  In particular the Weekend Study today asked how would I finish these statements.

  • The Bible isn’t…
  • The Bible is…

One of the passages the devotional have focused on is from 1 Peter 1:13-25 (for brevity I’ve included verses 22-25 only).

1 Peter 1:22-25 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, 23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For, “ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF, 25 BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER.” And this is the word which was preached to you.

Life Today

Now I didn’t plan this, but here is the interesting thing.  A couple of weeks ago I saw a poster for the Smith County Free Fair still having booths available and found out that non-profit & informational booths were free and so, after a short delay, I went about reserving a booth to hand out Bibles for free.

The fair is happening this weekend and here is a picture of my booth.

I didn’t plan ahead to see that my devotionals were having a theme centered around God’s Word the same weekend that I am handing out Bibles for free.  It is just interesting that it worked out that way.  God works in mysterious ways!

On a side note: Some people have asked how much the Bibles were and I’ve told them they are free.  I even had to refuse money from one person, emphasizing that he didn’t need to give me anything for the Bible he was interested in.  I didn’t do this to make money, I just felt led to have a booth to make God’s word available for free to anyone who wanted it, just like I do for anyone who responds to the signs on my Jeep.  I believe that God will honor that and that the connections to my devotionals just reinforce my belief that I am doing the right thing.
